The Big Garden Bird Watch

Bird Tables from Dorset Log Stores
Teak Surrey Bird Table
This coming weekend will see my nose firmly pressed up against the glass of the conservatory window, pen and clipboard in hand, ready for the 2015 RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. Minor ornithologist that I am, i.e I enjoy staring at the window watching the blue tits and sparrows while I should be working, I have partaken in this wild bird census for the last few years, and have recorded the visitors to our corner of Dorset diligently.

In preparation for making sure that my bird watching would be successful, I have been paying some attention to my two bird tables today. Giving them a good scrub and clean off to make sure that they are as inviting as possible for the little feathery friends that frequent my garden.

Dorset Log Stores sell beautiful bird tables, made in the finest quality teak, coming in two simple and elegant designs, the Surrey and the Sussex bird tables. Made by Westminster teak, renowned for their quality teak furniture, these bird tables are made from sustainable sources. Complete with a drainage hole in the feeding plinth, these bird tables look wonderful in the garden as the wild birds flutter to and fro.

If you are looking to attract more birds to your garden in the long term, you will want to hang one of our superb teak bird houses. With the same simple classic designs and superb quality, the bird boxes come in two varieties. The Kent Bird House is designed for fixing to a wall, fence or tree and also comes with a large side door for doing the annual clean. The Devon Bird House is a solid bird house, that arrives with a bracket, for placing on aaccess door for cleaning out the bird box at the end of the season and is a bird house to be seen and not hidden in a tree. Both Teak Bird Houses will be great for attracting many birds to your garden in the following years.

With my preparations done, my bird tables cleaned and stocked with feeds and my binoculars firmly pressed to the bridge of my nose, I am all ready for this weekends RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. All that is left is to make a flask of tea.

Shopping with Dorset Log Stores

Picture in your mind if you will, a gaggle of geese rising over the edges of the Blackmore Vale as rosy-fingered dawn slowly peeks over the top of the surrounding hills. Flying in their famous V formation, they dip in and out of the morning mist raising from the farmer's fields, weaving and waltzing back and forth through the morning light, before circling in to land with grace and poise on our pond.

Roaring Fire
Nothing Like A Roaring Fire
Situated here deep in the Dorset countryside, this is my morning here at Dorset Log Stores HQ. Not the worst way to start the day and having started my day watching this idyllic country scene with my cup of coffee, it's my turn to man our shop.

Stoking the log burner, to make sure that my ears don't go blue, in this decidedly wintry turn the weather has taken, I set about sweeping. Our shop here has a wonderful range of everything you need to keep your fire or log burner roaring and subsequently keeping you warm. With fireside accessories, coal scuttles and log
baskets all on display, we have a wide choice to suit any home.

Fire Pokers, Brushes
Fireside Accessories
Also on display are a variety of our beautiful log stores, each hand crafted here at DLS HQ, by one of the skilled members of our workshop team. Filled with logs (helpful to give an idea of what they can hold and also the source of fuel for my fire) each design is carefully finished and with the variety we have to offer, you will find a log store the perfect size to fit into that little corner of your garden. Also on display here are our Wheelie Bin and Recycling Stores, ideal for storing away those big ugly plastic bins that we all now have to have.

Having finished my day of sweeping (sawdust seems to get everywhere) and serving customers, I just have time to give the fireside accessories (we have brushes for shovels and cleaning, fireside companion sets and fire guards all on display) a quick dust.

Maybe its my imagination as I close up shop, the sun having set several hours ago and the night sky now as black as a lump of coal, but I'm sure I can hear the call of a gaggle of geese, as they splash about on the pond.

A (Log) Basket Case

You may wish to call me a little bit weedy in a moment, but quite frankly I'm cold. I was a little cold in November. Even with two Christmas jumpers on, I was cold in December. Now that it is January I'm flipping freezing. Here in Dorset we haven't even had any snow, yet each evening as the sun sets I dig out my fluffy grandpa slippers, put the kettle on the hob for a hot chocolate and light the log burner.

OK, now you can now call me weedy.

I don't mind. Honest.

Luckily my chore of keeping warm in front of the log burner each night, is aided by my trusty log basket. My log basket is rather a portly chap, finished in a mixture of unpeeled willow and buff willow, he carries a great deal of logs to and from my log store each day, ready for the roaring fire ahead. He also has the wonderful advantage of looking good when sat next to my fire, bulging with fire wood.

The Shop Log Burner - Where You Will Find Me
Of course, my portly willow log basket isn't the only sort of log basket that Dorset Log Stores has to offer. In fact, here at DLS HQ we have a log basket to suit any living room. The ultra stylish and modern metal log holders, complete with soft grip lifting handles and sleek tree design cut out, is perfect for the modern minimalist household. Rattan log baskets have that simple natural look about them, so evocative of a slowly ebbing fire in a country cottage, while the Canvas Carrying Log Bag, is a simple, very tough bag, perfect for ferrying in smaller quantities of logs for putting next to the fireplace (with the advantage that when it's not in use it can be folded up and put out of sight).

Whilst Dorset Log Stores has a whole range of log baskets (and many more than the few mentioned in this Blog) unfortunately what we don't provide is the courage to go out into the cold to collect the firewood from your log store. But, if you're looking for a wicker, rattan or metal log basket to go next to the fire and make the job of lugging all those logs in of an evening easier, then Dorset Log Stores has just the one to look perfect next to your fire.

Equally, if you happen to be passing, why not stop by our shop and have a look at our wonderful range of log baskets and fireside accessories, while warming yourself next to the log burner, that's where I'll be.
